“If you build it, they will come”.
That statement is from one of the more popular films made in the past 15 years. That film, or rather the concept of that film, is the subject of today’s Family First Site.
The name of the site is the Field of Dreams Movie Site, and is dedicated to the film of the same name. In that film, a man builds a baseball field in the middle of his cornfield, and lets it remain even though his neighbors ridicule it, and it may cost him his farm. This site is unique in that it promotes the actual location the movie was filmed at, the 96-year old Lansing family farm. It is the mission of the owners of the location that the site not be over commercialized, but remain open for any and all tourists to stop by, bring their ball and glove, and run the bases. Some of the things you can do online here are take a movie trivia challenge, pitch batting practice, or send a digital postcard to a friend. You can also visit the concession stand, or learn some of the true facts behind the film and the men that inspired it.
This is a wonderful site, one that complements the film that it honors. It is also an appropriate site, given that next Tuesday is the Major League Baseball All Star game. At this field (and site) everyone can be an all-star.
